19 of Medvedev's 21 titles have been achieved on hardcourt

A resurgent Medvedev secured his maiden championship for 882 days with victory over Corentin Moutet in the Almaty Open title decider.

The athlete, a ex- world number one, has endured a challenging period, winning just one win at the Grand Slams and undergoing a setback at the US Open.

His unpredictability on the tennis tour - and struggles with his serve in especial - resulted in him falling of the elite rankings and ultimately separating with long-term mentor his previous coach.

Now working with Thomas Johansson and Rohan Goetzke, he has gradually progressed in the recent weeks - climaxing in a tightly fought three-set triumph over Frenchman Corentin Moutet.

This marks his first championship following the 2023 Rome Masters and maiden on a hard court since March of the previous year.

Success also means the Russian has achieved twenty-one victories at twenty-one different events.

"It's the first time I'm at a competition with my children together, so to win a trophy is particularly special," commented world number 14 Medvedev.

"This championship is in tribute of my child my daughter, because the first title I got when my child my daughter was delivered was for her."

Medvedev, the past champion, had lost his previous six finals, comprising in Halle in the past months.

The player's counter-punching approach and recurring reactions on court had led some to doubt if his ability to compete at the top level was concluded.

Yet the athlete has implemented adjustments in the past month, making an effort to come to the net and perform positively, backed up by an improved serving game.

The champion recovered from a break down in the initial set against the difficult Moutet, taking four of the concluding five points to take the lead.

The competitors traded break points in the following set before the Frenchman, bidding for his maiden tour victory, gained dominance to create a third set.

He rescued four early-game opportunities in a tight third set before Medvedev won the break to that score to close out the victory.

Appropriately, he earned the title with a point at the front of the court, with the Frenchman incapable to handle a return after two hours and 38 minutes.
