Nearly 25,000 homes in south-east Queensland were left lacking electricity on Monday morning after intense storm systems impacted the state, bringing powerful gusts hitting 109km/h.

Large Frozen Precipitation and Broad Destruction

Locals reported giant hailstones as large as 7cm in some areas. Meteorological experts announced that various areas across the state had been hit with large hailstones.

Emergency crews were focused on reestablishing power throughout the affected regions, with approximately seventy teams activated to address the extensive power failures.

Southern State's Weather Woes

At the same time, approximately 1,000 energy customers in the southern state also encountered power outages after the metropolitan area experienced its most precipitation in a year and a half.

State Emergency Services responded to 598 emergency reports across the state, mainly for structural issues but also for fallen timber and inundation.

• Werribee - saw considerable weather impact
• Hoppers Crossing - numerous assistance requests
• Wyndham area - 179 calls for assistance

At the height on the previous day, in excess of 28,000 energy customers in Victoria were experiencing outages.

Weather Forecast

Humid circumstances were forecast to persist along significant areas of Queensland's east this coming days as a low-pressure trough continued to pull in damp air against the coastal areas.

The following day was forecast to be the heaviest precipitation period, with continued severe weather risk predicted across multiple regions of both states.

Health Warning

Health officials warned that there was an increased chance of weather-related respiratory issues across the state's northern country region, specifically given the ongoing climate situation.

This warning comes after historical occurrences where similar conditions led to significant health impacts in the area.
